Expressions Of Interest Sought For Seafront Regeneration Development Opportunity

Leading commercial property agency, Lisney, has been instructed to invite expressions of interest for a seafront regeneration development opportunity in Glenarm Harbour on behalf of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.

Overlooking the Marina and Glenarm River, the 1.2 acre Eglinton Yard site presents an opportunity to return Eglinton Yard to a suitable economic use that will contribute towards the wider regeneration and tourism ambitions of Glenarm.

Currently vacant, the site includes an open sided warehouse, a number of outbuildings and a substantial hardcore yard area.

Andrew Gawley, Director at Lisney, said:

“Eglinton Yard presents a really unique opportunity for an occupier and/or investor to capitalise upon the site’s outstanding location in the heart of Glenarm village and its close proximity to local attractions including Glenarm Glen; Glenarm Castle which plays host to the Dalriada Festival; and Glenarm Forest Park which is a popular destination for local walkers and visitors.

“Whilst planning permission for a mixed commercial and residential scheme was previously granted for Eglinton Yard, we are inviting interested parties to come forward with their own proposals and parties should then make their own enquiries through the planning process.”

Eglinton Yard is strategically positioned fronting New Road, part of the world-renowned Causeway Coastal Route, and directly opposite the new Tourist Information Office which is located within the Old Seaview School.

The Marina, which the site overlooks, boasts 40 fully serviced pontoon berths within the village’s historical limestone harbour.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Lindsay Millar, said:

“At this stage, Lisney is seeking expressions of interest for the site which we hope, with the right buyer and scheme, will return this vacant opportunity to a viable and sustainable jewel in Glenarm’s crown.”

Chief Executive of Mid and East Antrim Council, Anne Donaghy, said:

“Growing the economy is this Council’s number one priority and we are doing our utmost to provide the best possible conditions for business to flourish.

“We focus our efforts on being an enabler to the wealth creators.

“To do that we have evolved, adopting a private-sector approach to ensure we are embedded in the local business community to understand exactly what it needs.

“Together with the backing of our elected representatives – who have demonstrated unwavering support to our focus on economic growth – we have introduced and delivered a number of initiatives which have the potential to transform the economy in this borough.

“Glenarm has incredible potential and I encourage everybody within the community to play their part in shaping the future of the area.”

Interested parties should contact Andrew Gawley at Lisney on 028 90 501 501 to complete and return an Expression of Interest form by midday on Thursday 1st November 2018.
